AFR #189 – Burned out

I really suck at torch juggling.  I can’t throw them, I can’t catch them, I can’t even tell what direction they’re going.  This makes it seem very odd that the upstanding citizens of our great Azerothian cities are okay with me lobbing lit torches this way and that.  I suppose Ironforge is pretty safe, but what on earth are the night elves thinking?  “We live in a giant tree, so lets let all the clumsiest people in the world come and toss flaming torches everywhere.  That sounds like a great plan!”

red side, I ended up going and doing it in Thunder Bluff where there was a smaller area to run around and chase them. No way in hell I’m doing that again! My alts will be title-less for this one.

    • Good tip. I didn’t do any torch tossing on my horde characters this year, so I have nothing to suggest. On the alliance side I found Ironforge the most convenient, but other people may have better suggestions.

      • Actually, I find Exodar the best. The area is usually very underpopulated, if not completely empty, and the shadow of the flying torch is easy to follow on the ground.

  2. Shadows to max. Ground clutter to minimum. Every video option prime tuned for this… and you will still have issues as flying guards and players disrupt your dreams of torch awesomeness.
In the meantime, could you get Gord out of the Southwest U.S.?

    • I’ll tell Gord to go practice in Greenland.

      • God no, he’ll set off another volcano and disrupt air traffic for weeks! Umm… hmm.
was trying to think of some sufficiently abandoned/watery location, and it occurs to me to wonder if his torch tossing isn’t what sank Atlantis? ;)

      • Oooooh, Alaska! That should be good!

      • Oh my. Whatever did the moose population do to you?

      • Finally, we’ve found a use for Vash’jir!

      • Yes! Something useful from there other than herbs and whaleshark achievements! Genius!

  3. Poor Gord. I hope he still has some hair. I prefer to do my torch tossing in Undercity. The low light makes it a tad easier to see. Also, his frustration in that image is practically tangible. :D

    • Fortunately, the barber shop always manages to put Gord’s hair back just the way he likes it. ;)

  4. Throwing I can do, but the initial catching quest was a pain in the arse. All but gave up on this holiday last year (or the one before?) because of it.

But then I got the “juggle 40 torches in Dalaran in 15 seconds” achievement this year after finding a fantastic macro.

But then I didn’t hit 89 before the end of the holiday, so no Frost Lord for me (only achievement I’m lacking for the holiday meta) and – assuming I can get all the other achievements needed (and draft Nephew to do PvP nonsense) – no violet proto-drake until next June.
