Nice! Assuming you’ve gone to see it, what did you think? I quite liked how it kept to the’fantasy’ tone of the book (as opposed to the serious medieval ‘epic’ of the Simaril/LoTR stories), with the light-heartedness and more elaborate character designs.
It’s not liked he missed much afterwards. The raid fell apart loot-squabbling over the epic jewelcrafting mat before getting ganked by a bigger Horde raid – luckily they finally invited a druid tank who pretty much saved the day.

I’ve seen An Unexpected Journey twice now, first time in 3D and second time flat. I felt a little disappointed after the first viewing, but I liked it much better on the second viewing. I think I had to get used to the difference in tone, as you mentioned, but it is fitting to the differences between the original novels. As always, I love all the artistic and design work that went into the movie and New Zealand as Middle Earth does not disappoint.
And yeah, that pretty much sounds like how it ended.
