Poor Zhanashkar, he can’t find anywhere in Pandaria to spread death and destruction!

Now, I don’t like bugs.  I’ll make a few exceptions for pretty or useful ones (butterflies, dragon- and damselflies, honeybees) but otherwise I don’t want to have anything to do with them.  I hated even riding through Silithus back in the day and the Nerubians in Northrend creeped me out.  With all of that baggage, I think it’s a great testament to the art and story design work that went into Pandaria that even though I don’t like Dread Wastes, I found it compelling enough to play all the way through and to follow the Klaxxi story up to exalted.  I rag on Blizzard often enough with this comic; now’s the time to stand up and give them a round of applause for a job well done.

  1. I think the virmen barrows in the Valley of the Four Winds would be good receptacles for the pestilence and unholy power he could bring to bear.

I don’t mind the bugs so much in Blizzard games, though. Although picturing the 8 feet long phase spiders out of the D&D sourcebooks was creepy. Worse still – the cazadores of Fallout : New Vegas. I took a scorched earth policy with those.

    • Ugh, don’t get me started on D&D’s bug monsters. I remember one game where the DM pitted us against giant cockroaches. One of my fellow players, whose apartment was not in such good shape, complained: “Come on, I play this game to get away from my real life!” :p

  2. I just got to Dread Wastes last night and WOW BIG BUGS, O HAI, UM, I CAN HAS QUESTS? /whisper please don’t eat me, mr mantis 3x my size!

I was also thinking last night: given the percentage of people who suffer some degree of arachnophobia, it’s odd that giant spiders make such frequent appearances in fantasy games. Or do people have the phobia because…… Hmmmmmmmmmmmmmm…

(Side note good news: As I type, my game time is set to run out in less than 2 hours [I know, I know: why am I here, then?], and you may recall I wasn’t going to re-up for about a month. Last night, my bro-in-law gave me the 2-month gift card my parents gave him for Christmas that he never used so I can keep playing. :-) )

      • Really do. I wouldn’t have been able to do grad school without them taking me in and helping me out in other ways. :-)

      • Also: Yay! I actually might have a chance to get “Eternally in the Vale” before the patch drops and the Golden Lotus [spoilers redacted]…
