“Can we do anything to make fishing more interesting?”

“No, not really.”

“Okay then, let’s introduce archaeology.  Fishing will look so much better by comparison.”

  1. Fishing isn’t so bad once you max it out. Then it’s just a small grind to max it out again next expansion, versus the ‘DEAR LORD I JUST *NOW* HIT 213 FISHING?!’ It also helped having all the fish in the cooking recipes.

    • True, getting from one expansion’s max to the next isn’t so bad, but starting a new character and contemplating the idea of 600 points of fishing is rather daunting.

  2. Ah yes, fishing. I didn’t mind it in Rift though, with all the random extras! Fishing there has bonuses to skill ups and skill required for some pools (helps level and catch certain types of fish), collectables (artifacts that turn in for a reward set of currency, tokens for buying pets and stuff, and odds and ends), random chests (used to be a bunch of platinum *plat=gold, gold=silver, rough equivalence* but now is usually some random stuff like artifacts and dimension *player housing* items), and a few other odds and ends. I think the pools make the biggest difference, as you can hunt for a high end pool to get the last few levels before moving to the next zone.
That said, the dailies there are pretty non-fishing oriented! The one thing that really interested me was also the one thing I would never have gotten… the training book from Nat Pagle. Didn’t see a single one of the rare fish when I leveled cooking (I did all six paths very early on due to a 100% drop on meat from birds that no longer exists, but I caught all the fish rather than doing turn ins.) No thank you, too much grind for the reward!

    • The Rifts version of fishing sounds promising. I hope Blizzard steals some of those ideas.
