We found the kid.  Why are we still in Pandaria?  Yes, I know we’re there because it’s a new place to explore and do quests and kill bad guys and take their stuff, but story-wise?  The Horde quests say something about seizing the new land’s resources, but unless the ability to grow huge vegetables is critical to the Horde’s war effort, I don’t really see what the Horde stands to gain in Pandaria that is worth the commitment of troops and effort.  And the Alliance really needs a better mission statement than: “Stop the Horde from doing stuff.”

  1. Yeah, I’d say you nailed what it means to me Alliance in MOP

  2. Alliance has a mission statement? This is news to me! Honestly, the Alliance presence over there is rather silly, and in general the actions taken by the Alliance from about day 1 of Vanilla have been strategic suicide. We have the most homeless races, the worst general leadership, and the short end of the story/lore stick when questing… all of which just makes it better when you can talk smack to somebody who plays horde! Which, incidentally, is the real reason most of us are out there in Pandaland.

  3. Come to think of it… When was the last time Alliance was doing something out of our own innitiative? I started playing in late TBC, and everything that hapenned so far seemed to be a “reaction to something”.

  4. I sort of get the feeling that the Alliance hasn’t yet figure out what it wants to be when it grows up…

  5. Somehow, Red vs Blue springs to mind

“…And the only reason that we set up a red base here, is because they have a blue base over there. And the only reason they have a blue base over there is because we have a red base here.”

“Talk about a waste of resources. I mean, we should be out there finding new and intelligent forms of life. You know, fight them.”

  6. Supply of food is always critical to a war effort. And it’s not like the miners and herbalists have much to complain about node spawns, either.

  7. I’ve literally hated every encounter I’ve had with King Varian and his troops since we got to Pandaria. Jade Temple, “getting the natives on our side”, “rescuing” the natives so we can dress them in lovely blue tabards… And then I stop my exploration, profession/rep grinds, and getting to know the natives to help the king for a bit, and suddenly there’s a whole Alliance town on the coast that used to be all gorgeous green and lovely. The hubris of that man…!

And because I’m an achievement hunter, I have to smile politely and follow the script when all I want to do is PvP the king. Dammit. If I ever get an alt to Pandaria, I think I’ll ignore all the warmongering quests.

The only bit of questing regarding the neverending war story (ah-ah-ah ah-ah-ah ah-ah-ah…) I’ve kind of liked is going back to the Northern Barrens to help the trolls double-cross the Warchief. Even though gathering those materials took a lot of dying before I figured out I could stand on the outskirts and pull random passersby one at a time (and I haven’t even done the weekly, where I have to get 150 of each).
