AFR #150 – Brewfest memories

It’sh Brewfesht, yay… hic!

I don’t know about anyone else, but I found the Brewfest events rather glitchy this year.  I was sometimes getting multiple beer barrels off of Coren Direbrew (more tokens, yay!) and sometimes having my ram just disappear from under me thirty seconds into my beer run (fewer tokens, boo!).  Add to that rams who couldn’t seem to eat an apple from the barrel that was right in front of their noses and quests that disappeared and reappeared unpredictably and it was a tough holiday to plan for.  Nevertheless, all my alts are now proud tankard-carrying members of the Brew of the Month Club.

Oom-pah-pah, oom-pah-pah!

That’s the worst thing I’ve ever tasted!  Drink, drink, keep drinking!

AFR #149 – Where everyone has gone before

As other people have noted, Outland is now the oldest content in the game, which makes it an odd experience to go back there for those of us who remember when it was new and exciting.  One of my alts just started in Outland and there’s a strange nostalgia to going back to a world where you spend your questing time praying to the RNG gods that the next bird you kill will actually have that last beak you need to get.  I hope that Outland someday gets the Cataclysm treatment and gets revamped in line with the new design philosophies, since it’s an interesting place with a lot of potential.

(For anyone who’s wondering: yes, Gord’s line is actual Chinese; no, it doesn’t mean anything or make any sense.)

AFR #148 – No matter where you go, there you are

The physics of Azeroth seems to work by osmosis: if you stand next to something long enough, you become that thing.  The portal between Blasted Lands and Outland seems to count as “next to,” so it’s no surprise that Blasted Lands looks exactly like Hellfire Peninsula.  It is a little disappointing, though, to set foot for the first time on a strange new world and discover that it looks exactly like the boring old world you just left.

Just in case you were wondering if I was going to ride that horse any farther.
