I am pleased to announce that AFR is making an occasional return. You can find the new AFR Rezzed comics over at the site my wife and I run together: Co-Geeking.
There is no particular schedule for when new comics will appear. I’ll make them when I have ideas and the time to develop them.
Well, my computer is fixed-ish. I can get at all my files and browse the web and write and do my Poser stuff and all of that. That stuff’s working just fine. But I can’t play WoW. When I try to play, the computer just shuts down. It looks like my graphics card may be just plain fried. I’m looking into my options, but at this point, the cheapest solution is probably going to be buying a new computer. (It is about time for it, anyway; this one is getting old.)
But in the meantime, at least I can get AFR and Father’s Shield back on track. Look for the next chapter of Father’s Shield very soon and the newest AFR comic this weekend. Yay!
A couple of days ago I went to start up my computer in the morning and: nothing. I’ve had computer crashes before, so I tried all the tricks I know. Still nothing. Telephone tech support wasn’t helpful. My local computer repair service did their best, but it still didn’t help. I finally found a place to send my computer to for repair, but it’s going to take a couple of weeks.
Now, I have a travel laptop that I can use to do critical things and I have backups of essential things like financial documents, but all my fun stuff is on that computer, all my AFR images and the text of Father’s Shield. Until I get my main computer up and running again, I’m afraid AFR and Father’s Shield will have to go on hiatus.
I haven’t missed a comic since I started posting AFR weekly. I’m proud of that. You all keep coming back every week; the least I can do is have a new joke for you. But there’s nothing I can do now but wait, and it’s frustrating. I’m sorry. I feel bad about leaving you all in the lurch. I will get back on track as soon as I can.
Thanks for being patient. If all goes well, I should have the newest comic and chapter for you in a couple of weeks.
Away From Reality was featured today on WoW Insider’s Sunday Morning Funnies. Unfortunately, I’m not able to comment over there because my computer doesn’t play nicely with the WI comment system, but I wanted to say thank you to Amanda for featuring AFR and also to all the commenters who said nice things about my comic. I hope I can continue to make you laugh as AFR plods its way into future expansions.
(And to hnevard, I hear ya, man: I am an artist like someone popping a cup of ramen into a microwave is a cook. I’d love to see someone with some actual artistic ability take a crack at my characters, but this is all I’ve got.)

I have a couple of announcements to make!
First off, I am pleased to announce that I have finally gotten around to updating the About page for AFR. It’s been a pitiful little bit of drivel for a long time, but now it’s much better. There’s a lot of new information there about me, about my experience playing WoW, and about how I make the comics. If any of that sounds interesting to you, I hope you’ll take a look and enjoy it.
Second, I am pleased to formally introduce my second webcomic: Tabula Candida. Tabula Candida is a simple sketch comic drawing on my experiences as a professor of history. It began with me doodling on the white board in class and it has become a new hobby. Enjoy!
