There’s nothing like Karazhan for nostalgia.  I remember endless hours of fun roaming the halls of the haunted mansion fighting the good fight and slaying evil.  (Okay, no, actually I remember endless hours spent doing the atunement quest chains just to be able to get in the front door, but it’s still my favorite raid zone, hands down.)

  1. I seem to recall the Skeletal Ushers in front of the Opera Event myself, mostly because it was usually me who got squashed when the tank was frozen.

Karazhan and Ulduar were two of the best-designed instances though, in my own opinion. Still, having gotten most of the achievements, mounts, and pets from them, I don’t really want to go back.

    • Karazhan and Ulduar are at the top of my list, too. Those were raids that weren’t just evil lairs, they had depth and character and history. They were spaces that invited you to explore and ponder.

      • Same here. Kara was just so EPIC for its time, and it’s got a lot of variety for its age and content. I farmed the merry hell out of it when trying to get the reins from the first boss, figuring that since I’m already here and I’m an Engineer with vendor and mail bots… Ulduar was also brilliant for the lore and history. Never got past Iron Council (raids ran two days, I could never make the second!), but everything about it was just, well, epic. Though it was Karazahn that had the best raid-stories, particularly when one of our Druids learned the hard way not to auto-follow the tank and go AFK for a restroom break. Oh gods, I was crying. XD

  2. Oh, yeah, Kara! It’s also hands-down my favorite raid instance for exactly the reasons others here list, though Blackrock Depths runs a close second for exactly the same reasons (not to mention that awesome bar brawl)…oh….um….wait…that’s a five-man. Dang it, it always FELT like a raid!

    • Modern dungeons suffer from a serious lack of bar brawl.

  3. I can say, I did envision my main to be a protector (tank), a blacksmith, a cook…
    But opera actress?
“And now, on with the show!”

    • I like to think of myself as a method tank.

  4. Chess event. Best raid boss ever.

    • Sure is! There’s nothing like playing chess in your MMORPG.
