Here’s something we learn about dragons in the world of WoW: they like to pretend to be people like us in order to talk to us and get us to do things for them. That’s not the kind of behavior we generally approve of in the real world.
Away From Reality 
Hey, let’s be fair now! A player sees a dragon, what’s our first instinct? KILL AND LOOT IT! It’s not manipulation, it’s self-preservation!

I suppose for us humanoids’ benefit, if a dragon is hanging out in human-sized form they’re less likely to look at us and see tasty bite-sized snacks. Self-preservation goes both ways!

To be fair, I can understand our encounter with the jade serpent working thus… after all we just landed with our military advance guard and started fighting all over the place. There was reason to be suspicious. However, it seems that all too often dragons play the ‘Talk to me because I am just a normal humanoid’ game. It is rather disturbing. I’m waiting for the encounter with a dragon with non-world conquest/destruction objectives to finally be like ‘Yo, I’m a dragon. Care to go kick some deserving rump together?’ At the least they would garner somewhat more respect than avoiding the subject.

From that point of view I can understand the Jade Serpent being cautious in her first interactions with our characters. I’d still appreciate someday encountering a dragon who just says: “I’m a giant scaly fire-breathing reptile. Deal with it.”
